The song submission to Melodifestivalen 2021 has closed

MELODIFESTIVALEN 2021. After 3,5 weeks, SVT has closed the song submission to Melodifestivalen 2021. This means that the process to select the participating songs will begin!

IMPORTANT. If you sumbitted song(s) to the show, SVT has the right to block every uploaded song on their platform until ~November 30th, 2020. This rule applies regardless if the song is selected to the contest or not. If SVT decides to not enter your song, you free to release it – unless you want to take the chance to send it to Melodifestivalen 2022 or to another country’s Eurovision selection.


What will happen next?

Now when the submission has closed, SVT will listen to all the submitted songs and select the best ones. These songs will then get through to the national jury which will choose 14 songs that they think is the best songs for the competition. When the jury’s job is finished, the editorial staff at Melodifestivalen will then select additional 14 songs, which includes to select a song to the invited wild card from the P4 Nästa 2020 contest.

According to the competition rules, SVT has said that they will reveal all the artists and songs for Melodifestivalen 2021 during October and November 2020. However, the official dates are not yet confirmed.

IMPORTANT. Due to the ongoing corona pandemic, it is not confirmed whether SVT can or cannot continue with the 6-week tournament format, which have been the contest’s format since 2002. At the time of writing (August 24, 2020), SVT has not confirmed any possible tour plan and/or information regarding format changes. However, in a press release SVT confirms that 28 songs will be selected to the contest.
